Mashatu - Day 2 PM

We offered George the choice of where to sit (when you share a truck, the accepted and polite thing to do is rotate seats front to back) but he was happy to ride shotgun up front with Daniel, which left me and Ian in the first row, Iphraim in the middle and the back row empty.

We've also had the unexpected luxury of the truck/Daniel/Iphraim to ourselves for two drives so were more than happy to go with whatever sightings George preferred as long as they weren't too narrow and lucky for us he also was happy to see "anything and everything".

There is a hyena den near to camp and in the afternoon and this female was keeping watch.

Except she quickly got bored or decided we were no threat (which of course we weren't).

This is our guide Daniel, a great guy and full of info.  What I can't remember is what he was doing out of the truck!

The beautiful colour of mopane trees.

Another possible candidate?

African Grey Hornbill - first time we've seen one.

Far in the distance was this Brown Snake Eagle.

This was seemingly being attacked by a Fork Tailed Drongo which then promptly sat on its head.  Neither Daniel nor Iphraim had ever seen anything like it.

Not as quiet an afternoon as this post would suggest - see Cheetah Special.

As the sun was going down George was keen to try some sunset silhouette shots - not a great fan of them myself as I always think they look better in real life.

Having spent the afternoon with George - he's also extremely well read, funny, self-deprecating, slightly bonkers (the best people are) and jolly good company.
