Okuti Camp

Arriving in the dark last night we couldn't really appreciate just how fabulous our "tent" is, but in daylight - WOW!

And the bed is HUGE, so huge that you don't realise there's someone else in it and I can sleep in my usual starfish position without poking Ian in the eye or kicking him.

We have both an indoor shower

And an outdoor one, which is just lovely and not nearly as far to walk to as at Mashatu

There are 5 double rooms in a row and 2 family units.  Hopefully I might get a picture from the water later, but meantime here's one from their website (please note I'm not responsible for the hideous halos around the treetops).

There are boardwalks connecting all areas (slippery at times), presumably because the area is subject to annual flooding.

San tribesmen or similar.

Reception - unfortunately the giraffe weren't for sale otherwise I might have been sorely tempted.  In fact the only things to buy seemed to be raffia baskets made by the local women (as on the wall in picture after next).

Lounge area but as so often is the case we never had time to enjoy it.

Main eating area.

These individual butter dishes were clever, various animals including hippo as the handle and you just put the lid upside down on top of the base - simples!

Boma (fire pit)

Not usually one for a self feet!

This is Molly who led the singing last night and who has the richest of voices.  She wasn't supposed to be working this lunchtime but popped in especially for me - unfortunately without the rest of the "choir" it wasn't quite the same.  Our guide Jonah is on the LHS, last night he threw himself into the singing and dancing.

She's also a dab hand at balancing fruit bowls on her head.

There is a lot of staff and they are all very pleasant and very attentive but unfortunately they don't actually listen too well or share information between one another it seems.  For example, today, despite being told in advance of my dietary requirements and going through them again on arrival, lunch was Beef Cannelloni.  Ian gave the chef quite short shrift and he zipped back to the kitchen and prepared me a version with chicken wrapped in cabbage leaves which was actually very nice.  I find it all very embarrassing and sometimes would just rather go without than make a fuss but then I think about the $$$ we're paying per day and the fact they've had plenty of advance notice .......

One of the reasons we come to the Delta is to experience safaris from the water and later today we'll be heading out by boat.  A few, rather repetitive, views of the water/boats.

Walking down from the main areas.

Papyrus

And at the end of the boardwalk looking back to the dining area.
